Project Overview
Yoola is a large-scale on-demand delivery platform that combines food
ordering,
express parcel delivery, and rider management into a unified ecosystem. The
platform enables customers to place orders, merchants to manage products and
deliveries, riders to fulfill requests efficiently, and administrators to
monitor
the entire operation through a centralized management dashboard. The system
was
designed with scalability, high availability, and real-time communication in
mind
to support a rapidly growing user base.
Engineering Challenge
Developing an on-demand delivery platform required coordinating multiple
actors,
including customers, merchants, riders, and administrators, while ensuring
data
consistency and fast response times. One of the primary challenges was
managing
real-time order status updates, rider assignment, delivery tracking, and
notification workflows without creating performance bottlenecks. The system
also
needed to handle concurrent order processing, secure payment workflows, and
reliable communication between multiple applications.
Technical Solution
The platform was developed using Laravel with a modular architecture to
separate
business domains such as food delivery, express delivery, and rider
management.
RESTful APIs powered communication between web and mobile applications,
while
queue-based background processing handled notifications, email delivery, and
other
asynchronous operations. Database optimization, caching strategies, and
efficient
Eloquent relationships were implemented to ensure reliable performance under
concurrent workloads and provide a seamless user experience.
